Reiteration is Reinterpretation

June 29, 2024, 1-2 PM.
World Industrial Design Day (WIDD)
Presentation by @gitasulistiyo & @nsrnaulia
Gita Sulistiyo (Designer)
Nisrina Aulia (Graphic Designer)

The phrase “Reiteration is Reinterpretation” suggests that each time a statement, idea, or concept is repeated (reiterated), it is potentially understood or interpreted in a slightly different way (reinterpretation). Our familiarity with the emotion of empowerment & our familiarity with its urgency are necessary to expand our clarity and reach a new common universal understanding.

In conjunction with World Industrial Design Day (WIDD) initiated by @worlddesignorg , we would like to invite you to take a closer look and celebrate the process behind the works of Gita Sulistiyo @gitasulistiyo (Feeling, Feeling, Feeling) and Nisrina Aulia @nsrnaulia (Beribu Surat - Antologi Surat Feminis dari Indonesia) in how they approach, reflect, and evoke unique experience on their work, whether for the maker or even for the viewer.

Feeling, Feeling, Feeling

This visual project aims to investigate the practices and nuances of the Chosen Family concept, particularly from a queer viewpoint. How close-knit friendships that go beyond biological kinship help define families, households, carework, and the chain of care.

This project is not just about taking photographs in the present day; it's also about delving deeper and learning new things through reading archives, especially when it comes to tracing how the Chosen Family's practices and subtleties have changed or evolved over time.

In an attempt to preserve collective memories and history, the queer communities provided the archive materials that are used in this project. This approach will hopefully allow the audience to connect with their own journey, with a touch of historical approach, in finding or redefining ‘family’, regardless of their identities and socio-economic backgrounds.

In order to capture tactile sensations of the subject matter and also correspond with the printed materials from the archive, all photos are taken with Polaroid and film cameras. Furthermore, this pocket photozine can be carried around, just as we should be able to be close with our chosen family, everywhere we go.
